What do you you all think? Would you allow a potential employer to do this during application process?

Depneds on the job and how desperate you are to get it. What's be more interesting, once awesomize.me gets off the ground, employers start judging their candidates by their ranking and the people who voted for him/her.
Social networking sites like Facebook has become fully integrated as part of both our personal and professional daily life. For the employers to ask for the employees for their Facebook login ID, it's very similar for them to ask us the details of what we did in a party last night, who we talked to, what we said to who, who we shagged, etc. Although, some employees have miss used facebook and ended up sharing certain corporate data with their friends they shouldn't have, but it's the same thing as what you do by going to a personal party over the weekend and do the same thing, except it has sm
aller audience.
I understand the employers concerns with this issue. My only suggestion to them is to set up special sessions for their employees to educate them the negative impacts of sharing company info on Facebook by the employees and hope for the best.
