The study found that over half of female internet users used social networking websites such as Twitter and Facebook, whilst only 34 per cent of men surveyed admitted to doing so. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/social-media/9295533/Women-more-dependent-on-social-media-than-men.html |
What an interesting question. It has such an inherent bias built into it. Are women "dependent" on social media or do they enjoy it? And "doubly dependent" even. Perhaps they have more fun with it. Maybe they're better at it. Does that imply they are somehow dependent on it? Couldn't get by without it . . . as if we haven't done just fine without it for most of human history. Perhaps women do have (on average) a higher need for connections with other humans, in which case it only makes sense that they would get more out of it. But, again, does that make them dependent? It's a little hard for me to take this seriously, but I'm carefully restraining myself from making jokes about it. For those dependent women out there, I'm really glad we have such a nice variety of social networks for you. ;-) (more)

Mehrunisa Serena: You make a valid point re built in bias. Utilizing social media is different from "depending" on it. I tend to agree w/you!
