Given the free and effective PR we've been getting from Social media, do you recommend we still do Press Releases?

Press releases still have their place if you can craft an effective story with an effective hook. Distribution of the press release through a wire service and then sending them directly to targeted local print and broadcast media give you reach that you can't obtain through social media.

Effectively getting the message out requires that you repeat it multiple times. Using different channels and repeating the message will improve the pick up of your message.

I believe press releases still have a role to play as you definitely want to take advantage of each viable media channel available. The wire service is still a productive, money-making option.

Absolutely!!! A press release can work well within social media and shouldn't be "dropped" just because you are on Facebook. Host the release on your site and plug it on your social media channels!

As my colleagues said, you should definitely use press releases and the traditional media channels. Don't forget that it press releases are almost free (except a retainer you pay your PR company) and still very effective. In order to make a real buzz for your brand, you will need all the media channels you can get.

YES it is definitely beneficial to create a Traditional Press release although Social Media is great at generating traffic. Press Releases are a great source of traffic for an indefinite amount of time and by a wide range of sources. All of these sources and their networks are then exposed to your message, which is win-win for your brand. Also consider the Social Media Press Release which merge traditional and Social Media channels. http://www.AniseSmith.co has a Press link

Still worth it -- but that doesn't mean that your releases can't be SEO-friendly and SM friendly. Pretty decent template from Maggie Fox to get you started: http://i.jeff.ly/eijeMJ
