Social Media is great but time consuming with all the interaction across platforms. You can hit a huge audience in a matter of minutes and have the opportunity for folks to share your ideas and stories as well as put their own spin on the topic while sharing increasing the value of the original post, SMO = invaluable.
That being said, Press Releases are also able to hit astronomical numbers for distribution of content. Now while typically a press release (unless picked up by a journalist) will have the same content (duplicate) across hundreds of channels, not so good. Although you acquired t
he citations for authority it really does little good for the online optimization of said content. Press releases can however give you the credibility to be seen as a leader in your field if the distribution is good enough to get you into several high profile websites with a single release (such as Forbes or Entrepreneur online). Also, if a company ever wants to be in Wikipedia one of the criteria they ask for is whether or not you have been in Google News, not that if you haven't it will keep a company out, but it is asked. Says a little something about a press release.
If at all possible, do them both. To make it easier try to get a PR distribution annual package as opposed to paying for distribution every time there is news about your company. Some places will allow you to have a pay once for a year with unlimited releases. Thats defiantly the way to go.

Jennifer, we have been doing that for sometime and have noticed a slight increase in number of visits, very low conversion rate and we need to speed up the process. That is why we are actively looking for affiliate marketers and folks that have the skills and time to pursue all the other social network avenues. That is where we need real help
I didn't know companies still do press release. I think it's waste of money if the do. In may previous company, we learned hiring a few people with great social media expertise worth every penny than spending a dime on Press Release.I guess it also depends on your targeted audience.
We are looking for one or more individuals as you described that would be willing to work on a success fee basis.
What options are there for a WOW consumer electronics gadget with no marketing budget?

Anonymous Michail, just start somewhere--like FaceBook. You can establish a social media presence that way, and start gaining visibility and creating a buzz. Pick a FaceBook page in a similar vertical market and start observing what they do to create a buzz. Start modeling your own FaceBook page after that. Just jump in, even if it's not perfect. You'll learn quickly. You'll make mistakes too. But you'll be visible. ;0) |
