“…And immediately I notice how different Sofia is from St. Petersburg. It’s gorgeous. The only way I can describe it is a strange mix of St. Petersburg (with the large, cookie-cutter apartment complexes and general Slavic-y-ness), Miami (with the near forest of foliage on the streets, only trimmed when necessary to avoid shorting the trolley lines), and Jackson Hole, WY (Sofia lies in the shadow of a mountain which tourists and locals alike ski on in the winter).
I already love this city so much more than SPb. It feels much more genuine and so laid-back. It’s like Russia and Italy had a baby and called it Bulgaria. "
